I have a confession: I don’t have a regularly babysitter. What does this mean? It means I rarely go on dates. My parents watch my kids while I work, so they rarely want to see them again in the evenings.
I keep meaning to find and hire a sitter, and I keep putting it off. But now that it’s hitting movie season again, I think I’m going to lose my mind if I don’t find one soon. I want to see Harry Potter. I want to go to a hockey game. I’d like to just go out to get some sushi with my husband. (I’m tired of our date nights consisting of watching Community and eating cookies.)
(Not that there’s anything wrong with Community. Or cookies.)
Do you have a regular babysitter? Where did you find her? What age is appropriate? My mom keeps trying to talk me into letting her 14-year-old neighbor babysit for us but the idea of that is freaking me out. (Especially since I used to watch said 14-year-old when she was a newborn.)

Oh gosh, first of all I love that photo of you two! And also, Noah is almost 10! And we’ve never hired a sitter. Only grandparents have watched them and soon they’ll be able to watch themselves! Sorry I’m not much help. Ideally I’d find someone I like a lot that is good with them at church- like a highschool girl (or two), but everyone we know lives too far away.

I agree with Stephanie–get a highschooler. And if you’re worried, go on an afternoon date, somewhere very close to the house — like for a quick lunch or even a walk in the hood for your first trip out. Just far enough away so you feel comfy out but not too far that you can’t get home quick enough if you need to get home. My kids are just now at the age where we are starting to leave them alone (oldest is 13, youngest is 9 and my daughter is 11), but still, I don’t like leaving them if we are going far away, and I am afraid they will fight and kill each other. It’s a scary process, and you have to feel comfortrable with the decisions you make. And BEAUTIFUL picture of the two of you!
