Crock Pot Oatmeal: The Best Winter Breakfast

December 28, 2010 |  by

I’ve been obsessed with crock pot oatmeal.  How obsessed do you ask?  Well, for starters, I just bought a 1.5 quart crock pot to keep from scorching most of my oat meal in my big crock pot.  It’s the cutest little crock pot I’ve ever seen, and it was only about $15.

Here’s the thing with crock pot oatmeal.  It takes all of three minutes to prepare.  Like you literally just dump some steel cut oats and water and maybe a little half and half in a crock pot, turn it on before bed, and wake up to awesome oatmeal.  I add craisins or dried figs.  You can try nuts as well.  I also throw in a pinch of sea salt.

Here’s the exact ratio I use:

  • 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats (NOT INSTANT OR QUICK)
  • 3.5 Cups Water
  • 1/4 Cup Half and Half

Cook on Low for 8+ Hours

This makes it nice and chewy for me.  I’ve also tried adding a bit of butter, which turns out yummy too.  When I’m ready to eat, I sprinkle brown sugar on top.  Play with it!  Tell me how yours turns out.
