Kids and Homework

Do you struggle to get your kids to do their homework? Is it a constant battle? Or do they simply come home, sit at the table like angelic little kids, open their backpacks and get started on their math?

My three children are different types of learners. My youngest is the angelic type who does as I mentioned above but another dilly-dallies and can’t get her focus (oops, I guess I just gave it away as to who is my dilly-dallier). My oldest needs no attention at all and does very well. I can’t blame them because I think this has to do with each of their personalities. All three of them get good grades even though some have to work harder.

As a parent, do you find that kids have different study habits, and work at different paces, have different ways of studying? My oldest son rarely has to study and never asks for help with his homework, while one of my other children has to study very hard to get the good grades she does. I am very proud of all my children, and it’s a bummer that some have to work harder than others, but it’s just the nature of the game. It’s also a bummer for me that I have to go back to sixth grade and relearn all that stuff I thought I was done with!

How do you manage homework time in your house? Do you have different level of learners in your children? And what do you think is a respectable amount of time to be doing homework after school? Would love to hear your thoughts on the subject!
