Books are a fabulous way to teach history to our kids, through words and colorful illustrations.

Here’s a few excellent suggestions that top our reading list for celebrating Black History this month.

Underground [$16.99] a beautiful introduction to the Underground Railroad, as told by a group of slaves. Delicate enough for preschool ages on up.

For the older kids, a great read together as a family is Home of the Brave [$6.99] about a Sudanese refugee, it is a story touching upon guilt, finding home, and racism in an inspirational way.

Black Jack: The Ballad of Jack Johnson [$16.99] illustrates artfully the true story of the first black man to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and above all, the importance of never giving up on your dreams.

For little ones, delight in The Crayon Box That Talked [$12.95]- a sweet perspective about diversity that younger children can understand and appreciate.
