Valentine’s Day Crafts You Can Do With The Kids

February 11, 2011 |  by

So the big day is Monday. And like I said before, this day really is more about the kids than us, right? Well, when it comes to arts and crafts, I’m pretty clueless. So I went searching the web for fun and easy (the key word here being easy) craft ideas. And here are several last-minute Valentine’s Day craft ideas I found to pass on to you.

1. Heart Shaped Paper Clips

This is an idea from blogger, How About Orange. It’s the perfect craft if you have a drawer full of old paper clips that are taking up precious drawer real estate (you all know exactly what I’m talking about!). The kids can take the clips and bend them into hearts which can then be attached to notes, letters, you name it! And they can be used after Valentine’s Day too!

For kids age: 4 and up

Supplies: Jumbo (pink) paperclips.

What you need to do: Bend the open-ended half of the paperclip at the midpoint and fold horizontally until it transforms into a heart.

2. Heartbreaker Valentines

This idea is courtesy of blogger, Dana Made It. These heartbreakers are fun and pinata-like. Kids will have fun finding the prizes inside!

For kids age: 4 and up

Supplies: An assortment of colored paper; printer; kid-safe scissors stapler; and small pieces of candy (like M&M’s or jelly beans).

What you’ll need to do: Print this template onto colored paper and cut out the hearts or just cut out hearts freehand and write your own messages. Next, pair the colored heart shapes together and staple around the edges, leaving an opening at the top. Lastly, stuff with candy and secure shut.

3.  Valentine’s Day Friendship Bracelets

This idea is from Design Mom. This is great for any child who wants to make something for his or her BFF. They’re easy to make, knotted friendship bracelets.

For kids age: 5 and up

Supplies: Pink card stock; thick embroidery thread in various colors; computer; printer; kid-safe scissors; and a hole puncher.

What you’ll need to do: Pick an easy friendship bracelet pattern here. Print any bracelet messages of your choosing onto card stock and punch two holes at the top. Once the bracelet is ready, slip each end securely through the holes.
