Diary of a new mom: Traveling with a baby

March 18, 2011 |  by

Next week, I’ll be taking my baby on her first airplane ride.

And the control freak in me already has her wheels spinning.

How will I get through airport security with diaper bags and a car seat and a stroller and, well, a baby?

Will they pat down my baby? (They can’t do that, can they?)

Will she, gawd forbid, cry on the airplane? And if so, will I be able to soothe her and make her stop?

Or…will she be that baby? And will I be that mom?

Or will my fellow travelers be commenting on what a good baby she is. Not making so much as a peep?

So many unknowns scare the you know what out of this new mom/control freak.

But there’s no way we’re not going to California to visit friends and family and bask in some much-needed sunshine.

So, we’ll do our best to prepare (gotta love the iPad and its apps for babies. Yes, there are apps for babies!) and cross our fingers that we’ll get from point A to point B relatively unscathed. But if we don’t, I suppose we’ll just join the ranks of parents everywhere who’ve has a hellish travel experience with a child and lived to tell about it.

I’ll let y’all know how it goes! But in the meantime, all you moms out there who’ve been there, done that, please send any travel tips my way!
