A letter came home from school encouraging all fourth graders to consider joining the youth orchestra. Once upon a time Noah did take violin lessons, but he was so young that every single lesson was just how to hold the violin. (Which he never did get quite right.)
I was excited to ask him if he wanted to play again- and maybe even the bass this time? But, he doesn’t seem interested. This could all change if any of his friends at school decide to join. He has mentioned that he wanted to try playing piano (I grew up taking piano lessons), but we don’t have a piano, much harder to acquire than other instruments.
Do your kids play any instruments? What has worked for you?

If he wants to play piano, get him a keyboard to start. They don’t take up as much room as a piano and are cheaper. That way if he truly enjoys piano you can look into a small piano or a better keyboard. Carter could also take piano lessons if he likes and you only have to buy one instrument. Joel started playing the violin in 4th grade but they scheduled his lesson during PE and he really loved PE, so he quit violin. He and Terry both took piano lessons. Usually you just rent an instrument until you find out if it is a good match for him.
