Look for toys that are PVC-free. PVC contains toxins that are released into the environment and chemical compounds that have been associated with hormonal issues and cancer.
Remember that all wood isn’t the same. (For example, toys made from rainforest wood aren’t eco-friendly). For toys that last, try to find ones created with FSC-certified wood. Purchase other toys made from organic or recycled materials as well.
Skip the battery-powered toys, or select toys that use rechargeable batteries. Purchase high quality toys when possible, so you don’t always have to be replacing them. And instead of throwing broken toys away, recycle or repurpose them.
Encourage kids to play outdoors. Games like tag and hide-and-seek are fun, active and you don’t need purchase extra toys to play them.
