I can’t believe my baby is already five months old. So many milestones are coming and going faster than I could’ve ever anticipated. Rolling over, sitting up and now *gulp* (pun intended) solid foods!
And before I know it, it will be time to transition from rice cereal into veggies and fruits. And when that time comes, I’m going to tackle making my own baby food. And I’m planning to use a book I was given for my baby shower, Baby Love: Healthy Easy Delicious Meals for Your Baby and Toddler that includes some great tips including what equipment to buy, where to get good ingredients and how to store the food you make. And also has many easy to follow recipes like this one for apples.
Perfectly Basic Apple (yields 34 ounces)
Ingredients: 5 apples, 8 ounces water or apple juice
Wash and peel fruit (peeling is optional)
Cut each apple in half
Remove the seeds and stem with a melon baller
Cut each half into 6 pieces
Put the apple pieces and the water or apple juice in a 4-quart pot
Turn the burner on high and cover with a lid
Cook for approximately 8 minutes, stirring once. The apples should be tender, not mushy.
Pour everything into the blender. Puree until smooth.
Pour into two ice cube trays and allow to cool.
Wrap and freeze until ready to serve.
Wish me luck! I’ll follow up with y’all and let you know how it goes!
