Make Your Own Gourmet Popsicles

Now that the summer heat is in full swing, you have to get creative when it comes to outdoors treats and cooling down.  Last weekend, I got to try the famous King of Pops popsicles in Atlanta.  All the amazing fresh flavors inspired me to get cracking on some homemade popsicles at home.  Here are some ideas you can try for you and your kids.  To get started, invest in a fun popsicle mold set for your freezer.  They come in all shapes and sizes.

Lemon Ginger: Mix lemonade with some fresh ground ginger root to taste.  (Don’t use too much!)  Or mix strong ginger tea with lemonade to taste.

Sweet Tea: Brew your own sweet tea and freeze for a grownup treat.

Salted Watermelon: Add a pinch of salt to pureed watermelon.  (Or skip the salt and mix watermelon with some fresh lemon juice, orange juice or another fruit.

Pomegranate: Dilute pomegranate juice with organic apple juice for a taste that isn’t too sour.

Malted Chocolate: Use skim milk, chocolate syrup and malt powder for a milkshake-style dessert.
