How do you deal with too much stress?

Lately, I feel like my shoulders are attached to my ears. My husband walked up to me the other day and put his hands on my shoulders and couldn’t believe how tense they were. My doctor and dentist both asked me how much stress I’m under and recommended that I lower it because it’s exacerbating my health issues. I wanted to throw something. It’s not like I go seeking stress out!

(Though that was a nice reminder to me to be especially aware of things that stress me out. Sometimes they are actually avoidable and it’s really crucial to commit to getting those things out of your life.)

What do you do when your life circumstances start to feel a little on the relentless side? This isn’t a rhetorical question. I am desperately in need of stress management tips that don’t involve spending money. Although I will be honest, brownies have factored in hugely lately.

Tonight the plan is a hot bath and a book, and maybe some knitting, which usually helps chill me out. But I think I need some daily and even morning coping skills to help me get to a point where I am not feeling like the Mega Monster Mom by dinner time. (My poor kids.)

Can you share the ways you cope with stress?
