Me & You: Microdermabrasion, Is It For You?

Welcome to Me & You, a new column where anything goes! Where discussions will be about, well, me and YOU! If you’ve got a topic you’d like me to research, or have questions on anything specific, I’d love to hear about them in the comments section and we can tackle them together. Otherwise, we’ll be chatting about doing stuff for OURSELVES, because we’re moms and we do a whole lot for everyone else, so we need to make time to discover some things for ourselves! Let’s get to it with today’s first adventure: Microdermabrasion!

The other week I got microdermabrasion. I hadn’t planned on it, but I had a gift certificate for a facial, and apparently, my facial included microdermabrasion. So, obviously, I went with it.

I’m not going to sugar-coat it for you, because I’m not the sugar-coating kind. The esthetician asked me if she was hurting me when she started the process and I said no. Because I’ve had babies, (both ways – C-section and VBAC) so nothing hurts anymore. Plus, it really didn’t hurt.

The machine she used on my face felt exactly like a tiny vacuum going over my face. Exactly. I imagined it like that. Like a tiny Barbie doll was walking on my face with a vacuum suctioning off the top layer of skin on my face and pulling it off. That’s what I think it did anyway. The esthetician did my whole face and then said I would be glowing afterward.

I will admit, I did seem to be glowing after, but if any of you have gotten a facial, don’t you usually feel like you’re glowing after? I felt like the lip balm she used on me was the most effective though, and wanted to get a whole tube of that.

While my skin did feel smoother, now it’s been a couple of weeks since the microdermabrasion and do I feel like a new woman? Is there new skin growth? I’m not sure. Are there wrinkles gone? I don’t know. Did I have them before? I’m not really the type of woman who sits in front of the mirror and laments over the crow’s feet and the occasional wrinkle. Want to know why? Because I’m a Real Mom! I’m too busy getting out there being a Real Mom to notice all the wrinkles or the lack of them!

So what if I’ve got some wrinkles? So what if I just had a layer of them removed? If I had all the money in the world, would I go for microdermabrasion every single week? Heck NO! I would choose to spend that money on a live-in chef or someone to come into the house to change my sheets daily. I have my priorities, and microdermabrasion is not on the top of my list!

So, have you ever had it done? What do YOU think?
