What did you think of the Glee winter finale?

I’m not a regular Glee viewer, but I watched the first two seasons avidly.  Last night, I decided to watch it and find out how things have changed since I last checked in with the McKinley High kids.  I expected a lot of show choir drama over regionals, so the Karofsky bullying plot really surprised me–in a good way.  Glee has been guilty of a lot of insensitive plot lines over the last few seasons, but I think they were spot on and timely with the bullying and gay teen suicide issues.  These issues were presented unflinchingly, in a way that needed to be on prime time television in this country right now.

On the other hand, the episode then dwindled down to the annoying straight couple getting married, partially because their gay friend’s suicide taught them to live in the moment.  What?  That, combined with the really obnoxious soap opera style cliffhanger at the end reminded me why I stopped watching Glee in the first place.

What do you think?  Are you a Gleek or do you check in once in a while?  I’m glad I watched the episode (and particularly loved their rendition of Young the Giant’s Cough Syrup, one of my favorite songs) but I think Glee still fails its minority and marginalized characters.
