Facebook Addiction

I’m cutting down on Facebook. It’s killing me. Yes, I love all 800+ of you and yes, it is wonderful that Aunt Erma is visiting, and I do love those eCards that everyone posts. I love seeing all the pictures of cute newborn babies, and hearing about when your kid lost his first tooth too, and had Facebook been around when my kids were losing their teeth, well, you can bet I’d be posting about them too! And those kitty cat pictures are just darling, but it’s really starting to affect my life. In a bad way.

You see, I scroll through all of the time, looking for that ONE gem. That one big thing that I’m going to go crazy over. Well, actually there was something pretty cool the other day. This girl I worked with 20 years ago announced her pregnancy and mentioned that she had a cake baked and the frosting inside was the color blue. That’s how she discovered she and her husband were having a boy! That was kind of cool.

And I do find out about a bunch of great book debuts and updates from a ton of authors I love through Facebook. That’s probably the biggest reason I’m on Facebook actually – to connect with authors I admire. To keep up to date with the latest books. And to keep tabs with my family members. And also to update others on my own blog. It’s a great form of social media. It really is. I just need to figure out a way to not make it so important in my life.

Because it’s not. And when Facebook is becoming more important that the real faces I see right here in my own family, then it’s starting to be a problem, and I’m seeing that now.

So I’m stepping back. And as of this writing (and for the record, it’s 4:38 p.m.), I haven’t even checked it once today. That’s pretty major for me.

PS… One thing to note, I’ve NEVER been on Pinterest, and don’t plan on going there … EVER!
