Money-saving strategies: Summer fun on the cheap

Before you know it, your kids will be out of school for the summer. And having your children at home means a lot more time to bond and have fun, but it probably means spending a bit more money too. Here are some money-saving strategies for saving some cash on family activities this summer.

A day at the beach
If you are lucky enough to live near the coast, the beach is the obvious choice for cheap family fun. You and your kids can spend the whole day having fun in the sun without spending much money at all.

Summer day camps
Overnight camps can be expensive. Instead send your kids to day camp. You can find a number of cool day camps being held around your city. You can find different day camps where kids can learn about everything from sports and dance to cooking and music. In addition to independent day camps, you’ll find that amusement parks, the botanical garden, the zoo and other local attractions also hold day camps.

Free family fun
This summer, you don’t need to go far from home to have some family fun. Explore your own city or region and take part in free activities such as outdoor concerts, festivals, art shows and other cultural events. Your city’s park and rec department or convention bureau can provide you with info about local free activities for kids and their families.
