Latest study 411: The easiest way to lose weight yet!

You know the expression, you snooze, you lose? Well, you can now start taking that literally! The latest study 411 that I read about in Shape is a study that highlights a no-brainer way to lose weight. According to the study from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, there is a very close link between how much sleep you get and how much you weigh.

Research shows that losing just 80 minutes of sleep caused people to eat an average of 549 more calories per day! The co-author of the study, Virend Somers, M.D,, Ph.D, advises going without an alarm clock for a few days to see just how much sleep you really need. Once you know, make sure you get that amount.

Not that we needed another reason to get sleep. And not that we don’t all want this sleep. Of course we’re busy and it’s hard to get everything done at night and still get in bed at a reasonable hour. But the study does make a lot of sense. I personally have been trying to get my bootie into bed no later than 9:30-10:00 each night. I need eight hours of sleep. I’m definitely not one of those people who can sleep four or five hours and be fine (I wish!). So far, I’m making it into bed with lights out before 10:00 p.m. about half of the week. But I’m working to bring that number up. I’m a better person when I get enough shut eye- more patient, less tense and apparently thinner!

How much sleep do you get per night?
