Maria Mora

About Maria

Maria Mora of Mommy Melee works full time from a home office. She is fueled by coffee, questionable time management skills and toaster oven waffles. She co-founded Shop Sensory, a website that shares resources related to Sensory Processing Disorder and special needs. Maria is the mother of two boys. Her older son has Asperger's Syndrome and is hands down the best robot dancer on the planet.

What’s your inspiration?

I draw inspiration from unlikely places all the time. I love this line from the Sublime song, Scarlet Begonias: Once in a while you get shown the light / in the strangest of places if you look at it right. (Okay it's originally by the Grateful Dead but I really prefer the cover.) One thing I consistently draw inspiration from is the creativity of others. Basically, I want to be as awesome as the people I admire.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Sleep. I mean, I know I literally cannot live without sleep but if I don't get enough sleep I become a complete psycho. I cry or yell about everything. It... isn't pretty.

What’s your favorite part of being a mom?

Talking to my children. Now that my older son is four, we have the longest, weirdest conversations. It's fascinating.

What’s the single best piece of advice you can share with other moms?

No matter how crazy things are, you have to trust that you're not the first person to experience what you're experiencing. So please, please don't be afraid to talk about how you feel.
